Identification and description

Jaboticaba is a cauliflorous Myrtaceae tree whose dark berries emerge directly from the trunk and older branches. Plinia cauliflora is one of the best-known cultivated species and is widely grown as a collectible fruit tree.

Growing

Jabuticaba is native to humid southeastern Brazilian forest and commonly grows beside streams or in deep, moisture-retentive soils. It tolerates regular moisture better than many fruit trees but still needs aeration and protection from prolonged drought.

Its native Atlantic-forest settings are humid and often rich in organic matter. Growth is slower on dry, alkaline, or frequently root-disturbed sites. Maintain an evenly moist root zone, avoid salt accumulation, and give the trunk room for flowering clusters.
