Identification and description

Longan is a subtropical-to-tropical Sapindaceae tree with clusters of tan fruits and translucent, aromatic flesh. It generally handles a cooler dry interval better than rambutan.

Growing

Longan is native to monsoonal southern China and mainland Southeast Asia. It prefers warm sun, well-drained soil, and a seasonal dry or cool period that can help trigger flowering; excessive nitrogen and constant wet growth may suppress bloom.
