== Cultivars and selections == Auburn field work on the predominantly vinifera selection 502-20 provides a site-specific reason to investigate that selection in a Pierce's Disease-risk region: after five years at the Alabama site, no infected vines were reported, and yields were 8.0β8.8 kg per vine in 2020β2021 at 6β7 foot spacing and 12.6 kg per vine in 2021 at 8 Γ 12 feet. Berry soluble solids were 16.3β18.7% across the reported treatments and years.[[#cite_note-4|[4]]] These are results for one selection, planting design and site, not a performance guarantee for ''V. vinifera'' generally. A separate study of 24 European grape cultivars and five rootstocks found cultivar differences in susceptibility to tested ''Xylella fastidiosa'' strains: Tempranillo and Tempranillo Blanco were in the reported high-susceptibility group, while Hondarrabi Zuri and Cabernet Sauvignon were in a higher-resistance group. The study found susceptibility independent of rootstock in its experiment and also reported climate and strain effects, so a grower should treat these names as candidates for local disease screening rather than as universal rankings.[[#cite_note-5|[5]]]
