== Container growing == Container culture is possible with a compact cultivar and a large pot, but long-term performance in containers is reported as poor. A container should be at least about 45 cm wide and deep, with moisture-retentive yet well-drained growing media and regular watering during dry spells.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]] Vaskyhasky describes digging up a blackcurrant, growing it in a container for a year or two, and then pruning it to manage its size. This is an individual container-management observation, not evidence that blackcurrants generally perform well in pots over the long term.[[#cite_note-5|[5]]]
