== Fruit and uses == The ripe red cherries are valued primarily for their two coffee seeds. After harvest, the fruit is pulped or otherwise processed, and the recovered seeds are dried and prepared for roasting. In a garden, the red fruit also gives the plant ornamental interest, but the presence of fruit on one plant does not establish that its seedlings will share the same yield or bean characteristics.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]][[#cite_note-5|[5]]] Robusta is also an important breeding and production resource. Breeding programs use its variation in traits such as heat response, drought response, disease response and bean characteristics, while recognizing that these traits differ among genetic materials and environments.[[#cite_note-4|[4]]][[#cite_note-5|[5]]]
