== Flowering, fruiting, and harvest == [[File:Ugni molinae flowering (53136865208).jpg|300px|Flowers of Ugni molinae (Valdivia Province, Chile)]] The flowers are hermaphroditic, and the cultivar patent records the pollination requirement as unknown.[[#cite_note-5|[5]]] Growers nonetheless report lone plants setting fruit β one 'Kapow' plant fruited in its first year in heavy shade, and a variegated clone fruited on its own β pointing to practical self-fertility, although single-plant reports do not settle the question for all conditions or clones.[[#cite_note-13|[13]]] The berries ripen through the late-summer and autumn window of the local season; 'Red Pearl-INIA' fruit stored well for up to 28 days after harvest in the patent trial, an unusually long postharvest life for such a soft berry.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]][[#cite_note-5|[5]]] A two-year-old potted plant in coastal California produced a first crop of about ten berries in August.[[#cite_note-12|[12]]]
