== Flowering, fruiting and harvest ==

Flowers form on new growth, so heavy pruning, cool cloudy weather, or excess nitrogen can reduce the crop. The fruit matures over roughly 4 to 7 months from bloom. Harvest when the skin develops its full color and the fruit produces a metallic ring when tapped; the crown calyx should feel dry and slightly leathery. Ripe fruit stores for several weeks in cool, dry conditions, and the arils keep for days when refrigerated.<sup>[[#cite_note-2|[2]]]</sup>
