== Flowering, fruiting, and harvest == The flowers are cream to yellow and appear within pink bracts. The NC State profile associates flowering and fruit interest with late summer and fall and describes the fruits as pink, fuzzy, and about 3 inches long. Fruit splits open at ripeness, which provides a visible harvest cue, although fruiting time will vary with warmth, plant size, and growing conditions. [[#cite_note-2|[2]]] Harvest ripe fruit when the skin has developed its pink color and the fruit has begun to split. Handle it gently because the exposed flesh is soft. Expect substantial hard seeds rather than the smooth texture of a commercial dessert banana. [[#cite_note-2|[2]]][[#cite_note-4|[4]]]
