== Flowering, fruiting and harvest == White flowers are reported in spring, commonly from March through May in subtropical cultivation. Fruit follows several weeks later, with a commonly reported harvest period from April through June in Florida and similar climates. Local timing varies with winter temperature, rainfall, and the age of the tree.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] The species is at least partly self-fertile, and insects visit the flowers. Cross-pollination may improve fruit set where more than one compatible plant is available. Fruit should be picked when fully colored and softening slightly. It bruises easily and is best eaten or processed soon after harvest.[[#cite_note-1|[1]]][[#cite_note-2|[2]]]
