== Propagation == Dormant hardwood cuttings from healthy one-year canes are a practical clonal route. The extension guide describes three-bud cuttings and a nursery year before field establishment; cuttings retain the parent vine's cultivar identity, whereas seedlings are genetically variable.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] An original Georgian experiment compared 485 wild ''V. vinifera'' subsp. ''sylvestris'' cuttings with 576 domesticated subsp. ''sativa'' cuttings from nine accessions over 200 days at two sites. The tested domesticated cuttings rooted more successfully and developed more extensive first- and second-order roots, but the result applies to those accessions and conditions rather than to every cultivar or climate.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]] Layering is also a possible clonal method. A grower using the handle z86 described burying a still-connected vine section for one to two months and vigorous heat growth in complex south-Florida grape hybrids. That observation is useful as a narrowly attributed propagation lead, not as evidence for pure ''V. vinifera'' or a universal tropical result.[[#cite_note-6|[6]]]
