The species remains evergreen where warmth and moisture persist. The cited cultivation profile gives preferred daytime temperatures of about 23–28 °C and reports that young growth may be killed near 12 °C, while mature growth may be killed at about 8 °C or lower. Rainfall is reported as most favorable around 1,300–3,000 mm annually, with a wider tolerance; where a dry season is pronounced, irrigation becomes more important until growth and fruit development are complete.
