== Cultivation == Passionfruit grows best with warmth, abundant light, a strong support, and a moist but aerated root zone. Frost damages shoots and can kill young vines. Full sun generally gives the best flowering and fruiting, although extreme afternoon heat may require temporary protection or dependable irrigation. A trellis, arbor, or fence should carry the vine above wet mulch and allow air movement through the canopy.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] === Soil and water === Forest-margin soils are enriched by leaf litter but drain after rain. A fertile loam or sandy loam with organic matter is a practical cultivation equivalent. Growables reports a preferred pH of approximately 6.0–7.5. Poor drainage and stagnant water increase root and collar-rot risk; use a raised mound or improve drainage in heavy ground. Moderate drought may cause leaf loss and smaller crops, so irrigate during dry periods while keeping the root zone porous.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] === Sun and humidity === Use full sun where possible, with protection from exceptional heat or desiccating wind. Native habitats are warm and seasonally humid, but high humidity does not replace airflow. Dense wet foliage increases disease pressure, so train and prune the vine to keep the canopy open.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] === Seasonal changes === Warm rains and new shoots commonly precede flowering. Dry periods can reduce flower fertility and fruit size unless irrigation is supplied, while cool weather slows growth and frost injures the vine. The purple group is generally associated with cooler or higher-elevation conditions than the yellow group, which is commonly grown in warmer lowlands. In the Florida account, purple material flowers mainly in mid-March–April and yellow material from mid-April–November, but local calendars vary widely.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]]
