== Cultivation == Sapodilla prefers full sun and a warm, moist climate. It accepts a broad soil range when the root zone drains well. Young trees benefit from dry-season irrigation, wind protection, and a weed-free root area; established trees tolerate dry periods better but are not drought-proof during establishment or fruit development.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] === Soil and water === The preferred cultivation analogue is a well-drained, medium-textured loam with organic matter. Sandy soils and heavier clays can be used when drainage is managed. A pH around 6β7 is reported by the secondary tropical-plant account, but this should be treated as a useful range rather than a universal requirement. Avoid stagnant water, especially around young trees. Irrigate through the dry season during the first several years and whenever fruit development is being limited by drought.[[#cite_note-1|[1]]][[#cite_note-2|[2]]] === Sun and humidity === Full sun supports the strongest growth and fruiting. The native lowland setting is humid or seasonally moist, but humidity should be paired with airflow; a saturated, stagnant canopy is not a substitute for a well-aerated root zone. Young trees may need protection from strong winds even though established trees are comparatively robust.[[#cite_note-1|[1]]] === Seasonal changes === Flowers and fruit may occur through much of the year, with a main crop period that varies by climate. The fruit takes about four months to mature after flowering in the sources reviewed. Increase irrigation during the local dry season when young plants or developing fruit show stress, then maintain drainage through wet-season rains. Brief freezing temperatures can injure young trees; this is a warm-tropical species rather than a frost-hardy one.[[#cite_note-1|[1]]][[#cite_note-2|[2]]]
