== Cultivation == ''Musa balbisiana'' is a plant of humid tropical climates. It occurs in forests, forest edges, ravines, and waterside habitats, and has been reported from elevations up to about 1,200 m. A warm, sheltered site is appropriate for growth, but the species is not reliably hardy through freezing conditions.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]] === Soil and water === The species profile places it in moist forest-edge and ravine settings and reports success in moderate to fertile, well-drained soils. A deep root zone with regular moisture and good aeration is preferable to shallow, compacted, or stagnant ground. The profile gives a preferred pH range of about 5.5β7, with a wider tolerance reported, but drainage remains more important than forcing a precise pH in an otherwise suitable soil.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]] === Sun and humidity === Full sun or light shade can support growth, although a sheltered position is important because large leaves and pseudostems are vulnerable to wind. Humid air and regular rainfall suit the species. In drier climates, irrigation and organic ground cover can help maintain active growth, but they do not compensate for poor drainage or severe exposure.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]] === Seasonal changes === The species remains evergreen where warmth and moisture persist. The cited cultivation profile gives preferred daytime temperatures of about 23β28 Β°C and reports that young growth may be killed near 12 Β°C, while mature growth may be killed at about 8 Β°C or lower. Rainfall is reported as most favorable around 1,300β3,000 mm annually, with a wider tolerance; where a dry season is pronounced, irrigation becomes more important until growth and fruit development are complete. Cold protection or indoor culture is required in climates that regularly approach these injury temperatures.[[#cite_note-3|[3]]]
