== Description == ''Vitex madiensis'' has a shrubby to small-tree habit and can reach approximately 4β5 m. A massive underground woody rootstock may produce annual stems, an unusual feature to allow for when planning space and seasonal management. [[#cite_note-3|[3]]] The species occurs in tropical African woodland, wooded grassland and dense woodland, with records summarized from elevations of about 1,000β1,800 m. [[#cite_note-3|[3]]] Its nomenclatural record places the species in the 1875 ''Transactions of the Linnean Society of London'' treatment. [[#cite_note-5|[5]]] The fruit is reported as purple-black and about 25 mm long by 10β20 mm wide. The pulp is thin, sweet and mealy and clings to a stone containing 3β4 seeds. [[#cite_note-4|[4]]]
