== Description == Red-flowering currant is usually a 5β12 ft (1.5β3.7 m) multi-stemmed shrub. Pendulous racemes of white, pink, or red flowers appear before the new leaves, and the fruit is glaucous blue-black. The species occurs in open woods, forest gaps, dry rocky slopes, and disturbed sites, from coastal areas and the Cascade region to elevations around 6,000 ft in the USDA range account. [[#cite_note-1|[1]]] The plant's native rhythm is broadly wet-winter/dry-summer in the Pacific Northwest and adjacent coastal ranges. That seasonal pattern matters in cultivation: establish plants with regular water, then avoid keeping the root zone continuously wet once they are established. [[#cite_note-2|[2]]]
