== Description == Nanking cherry is usually multi-stemmed, with hairy foliage and a mature size described in horticultural references as roughly 7β10 ft (2.1β3 m), although seedlings vary in both plant and fruit traits.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] The fruit is red, about one-third of an inch across in one regional description, and ripens around June and July.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] NDSU describes the plant as winter-hardy and moderately fast-growing and lists it for hardiness Zone 2; hardiness performance still depends on the local climate and site.[[#cite_note-4|[4]]] Its native range includes China, Japan, the Russian Far East, and the Caucasus.[[#cite_note-2|[2]]] The plant is deciduous, with flowering in spring and fruiting in summer; cultivation should accommodate a leafless winter phase.
