== Description == The plant is a vigorous vine that climbs by means of tendrils and can cover a substantial trellis. Leaves are alternate and usually three-lobed, with glossy upper surfaces. The flowers are large and conspicuous, with white petals and sepals surrounding a purple, white, and green corona. The central reproductive column is prominent, with five anthers and three stigmas.[[#cite_note-1|[1]]] [[File:Passiflora edulis (84060).jpg|thumb|left|240px|Passionfruit vine and foliage.]] The fruit is a berry, round to oval, with a tough rind that is purple, reddish purple, or yellow at maturity. Inside is aromatic orange to yellow pulp containing many black or brown seeds. Purple passionfruit is commonly more acidic; yellow forms are often larger and more vigorous, though flavor varies among selections and growing conditions.[[#cite_note-1|[1]]]
