== Description == Stems are cespitose, in clumps of up to about 25, erect or leaning, reaching 3β20 m tall and 7β18 cm in diameter, with a cone of red aerial roots at the base that includes pneumatophores. <sup>[[#cite_note-2|[2]]]</sup> Each stem carries 8β14 pinnate leaves with a 0.6β1.5 m sheath, a petiole 17β50 cm, a rachis 1.5β3.7 m, and 40β80 pendulous leaflets per side; middle pinnae measure 0.6β1.1 m by 2β4.5 cm. <sup>[[#cite_note-2|[2]]]</sup> Inflorescences are infrafoliar, with a peduncle 5β15 cm and (58β)80β162 rachillae; staminate flowers are 4β5 mm with purple-red petals. <sup>[[#cite_note-2|[2]]]</sup> Fruit is globose to depressed-globose, 1β2 cm in diameter, its minutely tuberculate epicarp purple-black, black or green, over a single seed with deeply ruminate endosperm. <sup>[[#cite_note-2|[2]]]</sup>
